The Bitton Chalice. One of sixty facsimiles I made to commemorate Bishop Thomas Bitton (b.1248). The original was unearthed in the nave of Exeter cathedral in the eighteenth century and is now in the cathedral library.

Silver and moonstone pendant with 18ct gold highlight. I bought the stones in the 1990s from the daughters of a former headteacher at a school on the naval base in Trincomalee in Sri Lanka. He taught there in the Second World War and was an amateur stone dealer. The stone was mined at Meetiyagoda where the deposits now are largely worked out. This ‘brand new’ stone was mined in 1932.
